Chimamanda Adichie Explains Why She Wrote The Controversial Anti-Gay Law Article

1 (2) 2 (1)

The award winning writer wrote a controversial article ‘’Why can’t he just be like everyone else?,’  after Nigeria’s government passed the anti-gay law. Chimanda Ngozi Adichie in an interview with NPR reveals why she decided to pen down the article…
I wrote because I was angry. I was upset. It was very personal, my reaction to it. And you know, it’s easy to say, “I have people I love who are gay,” which is true, but if I didn’t, I would still have been outraged by it, because I felt it was deeply unjust. And I recognize that I have a voice now in Nigeria, and so I wanted to write it, and I wanted to write it specifically for a Nigerian audience, to say, “let’s actually think about this, let’s talk about this.” And the responses I got, I wasn’t surprised to get … people who said I used to love you but now that I know you support gays, I no longer love you. And when somebody told me this, that this is what her cousin had said, I said, “tell your cousin I don’t want her love, if that’s the condition for her love.”

I will call him Sochukwuma. A thin, smiling boy who liked to play with us girls at the university primary school in Nsukka. We were young. We knew he was different, we said, ‘he’s not like the other boys.’ But his was a benign and unquestioned difference; it was simply what it was. We did not have a name for him. We did not know the word ‘gay.’ He was Sochukwuma and he was friendly and he played oga so well that his side always won.

In secondary school, some boys in his class tried to throw Sochukwuma off a second floor balcony. They were strapping teenagers who had learned to notice, and fear, difference. They had a name for him. Homo. They mocked him because his hips swayed when he walked and his hands fluttered when he spoke. He brushed away their taunts, silently, sometimes grinning an uncomfortable grin. He must have wished that he could be what they wanted him to be. I imagine now how helplessly lonely he must have felt. The boys often asked, “Why can’t he just be like everyone else?”

Possible answers to that question include ‘because he is abnormal,’ ‘because he is a sinner, ‘because he chose the lifestyle.’ But the truest answer is ‘We don’t know.’ There is humility and humanity in accepting that there are things we simply don’t know. At the age of 8, Sochukwuma was obviously different.  It was not about s*x, because it could not possibly have been – his hormones were of course not yet fully formed – but it was an awareness of himself, and other children’s awareness of him, as different. He could not have ‘chosen the lifestyle’ because he was too young to do so. And why would he – or anybody – choose to be homosexual in a world that makes life so difficult for homosexuals?

The new law that criminalizes homosexuality is popular among Nigerians. But it shows a failure of our democracy, because the mark of a true democracy is not in the rule of its majority but in the protection of its minority – otherwise mob justice would be considered democratic. The law is also unconstitutional, ambiguous, and a strange priority in a country with so many real problems. Above all else, however, it is unjust. Even if this was not a country of abysmal electricity supply where university graduates are barely literate and people die of easily-treatable causes and Boko Haram commits casual mass murders, this law would still be unjust.  We cannot be a just society unless we are able to accommodate benign difference, accept benign difference, live and let live. We may not understand homosexuality, we may find it personally abhorrent but our response cannot be to criminalize it.

A crime is a crime for a reason. A crime has victims. A crime harms society. On what basis is homosexuality a crime? Adults do no harm to society in how they love and whom they love. This is a law that will not prevent crime, but will, instead, lead to crimes of violence: there are already, in different parts of Nigeria, attacks on people ‘suspected’ of being gay. Ours is a society where men are openly affectionate with one another. Men hold hands. Men hug each other. Shall we now arrest friends who share a hotel room, or who walk side by side? How do we determine the clunky expressions in the law – ‘mutually beneficial,’ ‘directly or indirectly?’

Many Nigerians support the law because they believe the Bible condemns homosexuality. The Bible can be a basis for how we choose to live our personal lives, but it cannot be a basis for the laws we pass, not only because the holy books of different religions do not have equal significance for all Nigerians but also because the holy books are read differently by different people. The Bible, for example, also condemns fornication and adultery and divorce, but they are not crimes.
For supporters of the law, there seems to be something about homosexuality that sets it apart. A sense that it is not ‘normal.’ If we are part of a majority group, we tend to think others in minority groups are abnormal, not because they have done anything wrong, but because we have defined normal to be what we are and since they are not like us, then they are abnormal. Supporters of the law want a certain semblance of human homogeneity. But we cannot legislate into existence a world that does not exist: the truth of our human condition is that we are a diverse, multi-faceted species. The measure of our humanity lies, in part, in how we think of those different from us. We cannot – should not – have empathy only for people who are like us.

Some supporters of the law have asked – what is next, a marriage between a man and a dog?’ Or ‘have you seen animals being gay?’ (Actually, studies show that there is homosexual behavior in many species of animals.) But, quite simply, people are not dogs, and to accept the premise – that a homosexual is comparable to an animal – is inhumane. We cannot reduce the humanity of our fellow men and women because of how and who they love. Some animals eat their own kind, others desert their young. Shall we follow those examples, too?

Other supporters suggest that gay men sexually abuse little boys. But pedophilia and homosexuality are two very different things. There are men who abuse little girls, and women who abuse little boys, and we do not presume that they do it because they are heterosexuals. Child molestation is an ugly crime that is committed by both straight and gay adults (this is why it is a crime: children, by virtue of being non-adults, require protection and are unable to give s*xual consent).

There has also been some nationalist posturing among supporters of the law. Homosexuality is ‘unafrican,’ they say, and we will not become like the west. The west is not exactly a homosexual haven; acts of discrimination against homosexuals are not uncommon in the US and Europe. But it is the idea of ‘unafricanness’ that is truly insidious. Sochukwuma was born of Igbo parents and had Igbo grandparents and Igbo great-grandparents. He was born a person who would romantically love other men. Many Nigerians know somebody like him. The boy who behaved like a girl. The girl who behaved like a boy. The effeminate man. The unusual woman. These were people we knew, people like us, born and raised on African soil. How then are they ‘unafrican?’

If anything, it is the passage of the law itself that is ‘unafrican.’ It goes against the values of tolerance and ‘live and let live’ that are part of many African cultures. (In 1970s Igboland, Area Scatter was a popular musician, a man who dressed like a woman, wore makeup, plaited his hair. We don’t know if he was gay – I think he was – but if he performed today, he could conceivably be sentenced to fourteen years in prison. For being who he is.) And it is informed not by a home-grown debate but by a cynically borrowed one: we turned on CNN and heard western countries debating ‘same s*x marriage’ and we decided that we, too, would pass a law banning same s*x marriage. Where, in Nigeria, whose constitution defines marriage as being between a man and a woman, has any homosexual asked for same-s*x marriage?

This is an unjust law. It should be repealed. Throughout history, many inhumane laws have been passed, and have subsequently been repealed. Barack Obama, for example, would not be here today had his parents obeyed American laws that criminalized marriage between blacks and whites.
An acquaintance recently asked me, ‘if you support gays, how would you have been born?’ Of course, there were gay Nigerians when I was conceived. Gay people have existed as long as humans have existed. They have always been a small percentage of the human population. We don’t know why. What matters is this: Sochukwuma is a Nigerian and his existence is not a crime.

Karrueche Tran ‘dumped’ Chris Brown after finding inappropriate texts from other women while in rehab

Seems Chris Brown cannot learn his lesson when it comes to the justice system or women.

Well Karrueche should be thankful Chris Brown didn’t beat her up like he did Rihanna when she saw texts from other women on his phone! On Monday, it was revealed that the 24-year-old was dumped by his girlfriend Karrueche Tran even before his alleged inappropriate contact with a woman in his rehabilitation centre landed him in jail.

While being caught breaking the facility’s rules – Chris also allegedly bragged about violence and guns – got him kicked out and incarcerated in the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles, California, it did not lose him Karrueche.

According to TMZ the model was already long gone despite being a dedicated supporter and even being by his side when he first headed to court in February.

Prison time: On Monday the 24-year-old was sent to in the notorious Mens Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles after he was kicked out of rehab.

On Wednesday, the website reported that Karrueche dumped the Turn Up The Music star in February when she went through his phone while visiting him at rehab – where he is being treated to anger issues, substance abuse and bi-polar.

TMZ said: ‘Karrueche saw Chris’ phone during her visit – and it was filled with inappropriate texts from other girls. It was the last straw.

‘We’re told Karrueche was especially p***ed because she’d been nothing but supportive to Chris throughout his ordeal, even going to court with him.’

The couple have been dating for four years but recently have been on and off again.

Texting other women has been a problem for the RNB star in the past, leading to his first breakup with former girlfriend Rihanna.

In 2009, the couple started fighting over Chris receiving texts from an other woman, the fight turned physical and Rihanna was left with serious facial injuries.

Chris currently remains on probation over the assault and his numerous violations of the probation are what has led to his most recent incarceration.

The R’n’B singer’s probation was revoked in December, but a prosecutor’s request in February to send the troubled star to jail was ignored in favour of rehab.

He still has 750 hours of community service to complete.

The singer is also yet to face court in Washington, D.C., where he was arrested in October after a man accused him of punching him in a confrontation outside a hotel.

That case remains pending, and Superior Court Judge James R. Brandlin has not yet scheduled a probation violation hearing to address whether he would penalize the singer for the arrest.

Chris Brown Can’t Keep His Pants On

karren

Karrueche Tran didn’t dump Chris Brown because of the girl he allegedly banged in rehab, sources close to the model tell TMZ. She reportedly ended their relationship because the ex-boyfriend of Rihanna (Chris) refused to stop texting his army of jump offs.

There’s been speculation that Karrueche pulled the plug when she found out he had hooked up with another girl in his facility at the beginning of March – but TMZ has learned that the break-up preceded that. She reportedly ended things after she visited Chris in rehab the month before.

Sources told TMZ that Karrueche saw Chris’ phone during her visit – and it was filled with inappropriate texts from other girls.

Karrueche was especially pissed because she’d been nothing but supportive to Chris throughout his ordeal, even going to court with him.

TMZ was told that Karrueche wasn’t even aware Chris had allegedly been getting down with girls in rehab until long after the break-up.

Chris Brown was kicked out of a Malibu rehab center on Friday, and landed in LA jail over the weekend.

Brown has done little to change his image since his 2009 physical abuse of Rihanna. He pleaded guilty to hitting her.

Meanwhile, Rihanna has moved on with singer Drake.

NIS Recruitment: Moro Defiant, Says Bankers, Doctors, Others In Paid Employment To Blame For Stampede

Abba-MoroMinister of the Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, who is in the eye of the storm following last Saturday’s stampede at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment centers across the nation, which left no fewer than 19 job-seekers dead and several others injured, has continued to blame everyone but himself as he again laid the responsibility for the tragic incident on doctors, nurses, bankers, teachers and others in paid employment.

According to him, these already employed individuals thronged the various recruitment centers in their numbers with the hope of getting Foreign Service postings and being eligible for pensions if employed by the service, despite the fact that they did not apply for the advertised vacancies.

Moro’s aide, Mallam Salisu Dantata Muhammed, who spoke on behalf of his boss in Abuja yesterday, said contrary to widely circulated reports, the ministry put every logistics in place to cater for the expected applicants at all the centers nationwide.

The aide also heaped some of the blame for the stampede on the penetration of social media, saying that many of the applicants were inviting friends and relatives, who did not apply for the job in the first place to the centers through Facebook, text messages and other portals.

Muhammed said: “It’s odd that many of those who turned up included employed bankers, engineers, medical doctors, nurses, teachers and others who wanted to cross over to the Immigration Services at all costs.

“The Minister and officials of his ministry considered last Saturday’s incident as very regrettable, more so as the unexpected huge crowd shattered the near perfect arrangements they had put in place against anticipated huge crowd.

“The Interior Ministry made adequate provisions for the expected mammoth crowd at the National Stadium meant to conveniently sit 75,000 people.

It was gathered that more than 45 percent of those who eventually turned up for the recruitment exercise were not supposed to be at the centers.

According to Muhammed: “About 520,000 applied for the recruitment exercise across the federation. For instance, we had in our record that applicants totaling 68,000 were to be at the Abuja Stadium. But at the end, nearly 70 percent of non-applicants forced their way into the stadium.

“Apart from the committees that planned the exercise ahead, we had security personnel drawn from the Immigration, Civil Defence, Prisons, Fire Services and others to complement the Police. We made adequate preparations.

“But they overpowered the security personnel. Many of them got impatient and very desperate to get attention, and in the process, they began to climb and jump across impossible places in order to gain access to the stadium. That was the beginning of the stampede.

“The crowd got more desperate when they learnt that they could get Foreign Service postings and then become pensionable. So doctors, nurses, teachers, engineer, and all manners of people who had paid jobs turned up and increased our dilemma”, he lamented.

The minister’s aide said the flood of criticisms that greeted the stampede were uncalled for, arguing that the critics did not bother to find out what caused the stampede.

To underscore the feeling of sadness that Mr. Moro and top officials of the ministry are experiencing, Muhammed said they have embarked on special intercessory prayers, specifically for those who lost their lives in the ill-fated exercise.

Northern Govs Hold Emergency Meeting On Insecurity, Confab Next Week

northern govsThe Northern State Governors’ Forum will hold an emergency meeting on Tuesday, March 25 in Abuja to discuss burning issues of national and regional importance.

Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Danladi Ndayebo on Thursday, said two separate meetings would be held to consider the security situation in the region and the North’s agenda at the on-going National Conference.

Aliyu also said the 13 governors, who met with U.S. government officials and representatives of Norway and Denmark at the United States Peace Institute and the State Department in Washington D.C during the week, will brief the Forum on the progress made in its search for solutions to the security challenges confronting the region.

The statement partly reads: “The 13-man delegation of the Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) will brief the larger house on the forum’s collaboration with the governments of the United States, Norway and Denmark at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Niger State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja”.

The statement said the refocussing of attention by the U.S on the situation in the North, economic investment opportunities, security and challenges of private investments in the region, were highlights of the governors’ meeting with U.S officials

“The 19 Northern Governors will also meet with delegates to the ongoing National Conference from the North to fine tune the region’s position at the talk shop. The meeting will hold at 8 p.m. at the Kano State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja on the same day”, the statement added.

Ekiti 2014: Fayemi Picks APC Nomination Form

fayemi-500x330Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Wednesday, obtained the All Progressives Congress, APC, expression of interest and Nomination form to seek reelection as governor of the Southwest state.

Fayemi, who secured his first tenure via an Appeal Court judgment in October 2010, which declared him as the duly elected governor of Ekiti State, obtained the form at the national headquarters of APC in Abuja.

Accompanied by his Deputy, Professor Modupe Adelabu, lawmakers representing the State at the National Assembly, the Director-General of his campaign organisation, Hon. Bimbo Daramola, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Dr. Adewale Omirin and his supporters, who arrived separately at the party secretariat, Fayemi stated that he is seeking re-election in order to consolidate the “good works” which his administration started four years ago.

He was received by the party’s Interim National Secretary, Alhaji Tijani Tumsah and the National Organising Secretary, Osita Izulaso.

The governor, who obtained the form with a N5.5 million Zenith Bank cheque, called on Nigerians to reject the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the 2015 general elections, adding that the “mishandling” of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment, in which no fewer than 19 applicants died, is enough reason to send the ruling party at the centre packing.

Fayemi, who called for a minute’s silence in honour of the dead applicants, said the PDP-led Federal Government has failed Nigerians, especially the younger generation.

He said: “My excitement today is tempered by the horrific news that we received a few days ago of the death of scores of young people who sought employment but were given death by the Federal Government.

“The inhumane treatment meted out to our young people nationwide in the course of the NIS recruitment is a sad commentary on the degree of incompetence that pervades our Federal Government under the PDP. I strongly condemn this ugly incident, which is a shame to this country”.

He also urged Ekiti people to be vigilant in the “coming days” and not be deceived by those he called desperate aspirants.

Obesere Ra-pe Scandal: Reveals He Had Great Plans For Accuser Because She Satisfied Him In Bed + Says His Wife Has Forgiven Him

obesere

obesere

You may recall that that a few weeks ago a woman named Olanike Olaiya accused Fuji musician Obesere of ra-pe. He was thereafter released but released. However the ra-pe scandal is still hot gist with both parties and their camp going to the press with their version of what happened. The woman in question has now said she has stopped bleeding and left the matter to God, while Obesere continues to insist that sex between them was consensual even though he is very much married. Last week I told you about how his wife is standing by him even though he cheated on her.

This week Obesere is revealing that he is now suing the Olanike Olaiya, he also goes on to say sex with 29 year old Olanike was an enjoyable experience, he had “great plans” for her because she satisfied him in bed, but  now that she messed up, ain’t nothing for her. Obesere and his camp continue to insist her plan was the extort 10 million Naira from him. Obesere also says his wife has forgiven him

Read his Encomium Magazine interview after the jump

Could you explain in details the rape allegation leveled against you by one Miss Olaiya Olanike? How did you get to know her?

I knew her through Alhaja Bola Omoowo, who I also assist in her business. She is just like a sister to me. So, when Alhaja Bola was informed that Obesere rice is coming from Thailand, she pleaded with me that she has a girl, Nike, who she would like to be one of the distributors. That’s how she linked her to me. I also investigated Nike through Alhaja Bola, she told me she is a very good girl.

She said there won’t be any problem involving her in the business. Then, we started talking on phone since Wednesday, February 5, 2014. But she insisted she would appreciate seeing me one-on-one. And I had to give her an appointment. She now came on Monday, February 10, 2014, around 9pm. She waited till I came back at about 10.30pm. Nike was so happy and excited meeting me one-on-one for the first time. We exchanged pleasantries and all that.

What followed?

I asked if she had eaten and if not, I could buy food for her but she said she wouldn’t mind preparing food for herself if there is food stuff. Then, I allowed her into the kitchen and she prepared what she wanted to eat.

Why did you do that being the first time?

I allowed her to enter my kitchen because of the personality that introduced her to me. We discussed the business she came for, and when I realized it was getting late, I told her to be going back home but she said she wouldn’t mind sleeping over.

That’s why I allowed her to be with me till the next day but to my surprise, she didn’t leave until the third day. Even that day I asked if she was ready to leave because I had an appointment but she said she preferred to wait till I come back. She said Alhaja Bola was coming to Lagos that day for a meeting about the said Obesere rice and she will also use the opportunity to see her.

Later, Nike called and told me that Alhaja Bola had arrived and that she wanted to go and meet her at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, the venue of the meeting. After the meeting, they left for Ibadan, Oyo State. The following day, Nike called me on phone and said she had been bleeding since she left my house.

I was surprised to hear that from her, I now asked her the cause of the bleeding. I also advised her to inform Alhaja Bola so that she could take her to hospital to find out what exactly was wrong with her. But she told me she wouldn’t want Alhaja Bola to know about it because she might discuss the matter with other people, which she won’t like. But I found it difficult to understand what she told me.

I decided to call Alhaja Bola myself and explained to her what Nike told me. To my surprise, Bola told me there was nothing like that but she would call me back in 20 minutes and explain what was going on.

But after waiting for about 25 minutes, and I didn’t hear from Alhaja Bola, I had to call her myself. She now told me that nothing was wrong with Nike. She said Nike wanted to take me for a ride. Alhaja Bola said Nike wanted to conspire with her and dupe me for about N10 million.

Alhaja Bola now told her she couldn’t be part of that kind of shady deal because I have been nice to her. She now sent her out of her house with her daughter.

So, she has a daughter?

Yes, the name of her daughter is Folawe. Nike is an adult, a very mature lady.

But it was reported she also came to your house and reported the matter to you…

Yes, she came. After she was sent out by Alhaja Bola, she had to come back to Lagos. When she came to my house, she said the same thing she told me on phone, I now instructed my manager to take her to my private doctor for treatment. But the doctor said there was nothing wrong with her.

But did the doctor find out if she was truly bleeding?

Yes, he said she wasn’t bleeding. He said there were no traces of that at all. But the doctor advised that she should go for a scan to find out what exactly was wrong with her. It was in the evening, my manager had to lodge her in a hotel so that she would from there be taken to the hospital for scan the next day. But when my manager got to the hotel in the morning, Nike had left. The next thing we saw was police invitation.

I wasn’t around. And when my security man called me about the invitation, I asked my lawyer, Barrister Roy to represent me at the station because I was in Osun where I was to perform. So, when the lawyer got to the station, what he met there was totally different. The lawyer told me that the matter at the station was that Nike accused me of raping her.

Which police station was that?

That’s Isolo-Okota Police Station. In his own view, he said maybe Nike had bribed all the police officers there because of the situation he met at the station. So, he advised that we should transfer the case to Adekunle Police Station, Panti, Yaba, Lagos, for proper investigation.

I gave him the go ahead. When they were informed at Isolo-Okota Police Station that the case had been transferred to Panti, they were all surprised. But despite the transfer, when I came back from Osun State, I went to honour the invitation at Isolo-Okota Police Station and I made it known to the officers there that they were biased about the case.

But the report was that you’re arrested…

(Cuts in) I was never arrested and detained. I walked to the station myself and left same day. The next day, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) got a letter notifying him that the case had been transferred to Adekunle Police Station, Panti, Yaba, Lagos.

The DPO, Ibrahim Adamu was shocked. He couldn’t believe the case could be transferred to Panti. So, we got to Panti on Wednesday, March 3. 2014. They asked us to state our sides of the matter. Nike was the first to speak. She was asked to provide the evidence that she was truly raped. They asked if she screamed, if there was any mark on her body in the course of struggling with her and all that. She was even asked if her bra and pant were torn.

When she couldn’t provide any evidence, they said she should think of another thing to say against me, she should forget about rape, meaning that she was lying. But investigations still continued. I am now the complainant.

Why are you now the complainant?

I am the complainant at Panti now. I took the case there because of Nike’s false accusation. And the police are still conducting their investigations. On Thursday, March 6, 2014, I went to Panti but she didn’t show up. Police had to go to her Festac home address, they couldn’t find her there. It was discovered that that she left a fake address at the station.

So, they don’t know her whereabouts at the moment?

Yes.

What’s going to happen next now?

The police knows what next. I can’t teach them their job.

But you had sex with her?

What are you saying? Somebody who slept in my house for almost three days? Am I not a man? She even confessed she enjoyed me better than anybody ever. So, tell me how can she call that rape? Where is rape coming in this matter between two adults? I am surprised o, my brother.

Why did you have sex with her, when you’re married, even in your house?

I am not an angel. Besides, I am a complete man. So, you can’t rule that out in a man because we’re all human beings. But what I can’t do is to rape and I didn’t rape Nike. That was obvious.

Was there any misunderstanding between the two of you before she left your house that day?

There was nothing like that.

Did she request for money which you couldn’t oblige?

Not at all. She didn’t ask for money but within me, I had a plan to make her happy for meeting me.

But what’s going to happen now?

How? She has messed up the whole relationship now. There is nothing to talk about again. Nothing can happen between us again.

But Nike claimed you inserted a ring in her private part, soon after she started bleeding profusely…

(Cuts in) There was nothing like that. She was only lying, looking for a way of blackmailing me so that she can achieve her aim. I have only a wedding ring and the finger bearing that can’t even do anything like that. I didn’t do anything like that. For a person to have slept for three days with me and she is now saying rubbish. Nike is a blatant liar and a scammer.

What’s going to happen next now?

I want to charge her to court for libel. I want her to learn her lesson. She should stop being dubious. I also want every girl out there to learn from her. They should not embark on that kind of shady deal to swindle men.

What lesson has the incident taught you?

A lot. I just have to advise all men to be careful and watchful of the kind of girls around them.

Did you regret your action, we mean making love with Nike?

Not at all. I can’t regret it because it happened naturally between the two of us.

But don’t you think this allegation is enough to put your image on the line?

Nothing like that. It can’t in any way damage my reputation because everybody knows I am not an angel.

Won’t it affect your career?

It can’t. I am an entertainer. It can never disturb my career. Even as I speak to you now, I am somewhere in Ogbomoso, where I would be performing tonight.

What was your wife’s reaction to the story?

My wife believes I am a human being. I am not an angel. She didn’t react badly to it. She only warned me to be very careful with some women. So far you married a wife that understands you, a wife that stands as your mother, you won’t have any problem. She is like a mother to me.

What have been the reactions from your fans?

A lot of people have called me, home and abroad. Everybody was surprised. But they all know I can’t rape a woman when there are lots of them who are even willing to associate with me. But one thing I believe is that very soon, the truth shall be known.

The only person I feel for in all this is his wife! The woman knows her husband is a randy man that will sleep with plenty other females and even with this ra-pe accusation, he probably won’t stop.

So yesterday Toke Makinwa posted the above picture from the set of her HIP TV show called “Trending”. In it she is posed up with DJ Spinnal, rocking a black jumpsuit but that’s not what has everyone buzzing, it’s the suspicious looking bump in her belly which had everyone throwing around the P word…pregnant!

The media personality who recently got married to Maje Ayida in a top secret ceremony has however shut down the pregnancy reports!

She also added,

Wizkid Calls Fan Who Dissed His Son A Shit face!!!

JamalZamaniBoluwatifeBalogun_that1960chickdottcom

Wizkid is one protective father and people should know not to diss his son! A few weeks ago Wizzy posted a picture of his two year old son Boluwatife, chilling with Ice Prince’s son Jamal.

A fan with absolutely no manners commented on the picture saying, “They no fine abeg”

To which the starboy replied the hater, “See your shitface”

I totally support Wizkid calling the fan a shitface because there are some  things you just do not do & dissing children is one of them. I don’t know any parent who would just sit by and watch someone insult their kids. The commenter got what he deserved as he received even more abuse from Wizkid’s other fans who had seen the comment.

Unbelievable: Gay Banker Strangles Wife, Burns Her Body Just To Hide His Homosexuality (PICTURED)

Jasvir Ram Ginday, 30, is accused of killing wife Varkha Rani, 24, on September 12 last year

Jasvir Ram Ginday, 30, is accused of killing wife Varkha Rani, 24, on September 12 last year.

A bank worker who married to conceal his homosexuality strangled his wife a few months later with a metal vacuum pipe, a court heard yesterday.

Jasvir Ram Ginday throttled Varkha Rani and tried to destroy her remains in an incinerator after going through with the arranged marriage to please his parents.

The couple tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in India last March – even though Ginday, 30, had confided in a friend years earlier that he was attracted to men, the jury were told.

The defendant had travelled to  the subcontinent with his mother to find a bride and met several women before a match-maker known to both families introduced him to Miss Rani.

Prosecutor Debbie Gould told a jury the couple became engaged ‘at the end of a meeting which lasted several hours’, with Miss Rani’s family believing Ginday to be ‘a perfect match for their intelligent, well-educated, and attractive young daughter’.

The bride, who had completed a degree and a master’s degree in science and information technology in India, moved to the UK to live with Ginday in August after being granted a visa.

But just a month later, police discovered the unrecognisable remains of the 24-year-old bride in the back garden of the home they shared with other members of Ginday’s family.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard Ginday allegedly carried out the brutal attack on his wife because he was unable to pretend to be straight. The court heard he strangled his wife before forcing her body into the 22-inch deep incinerator and setting it alight.

Miss Gould said that after killing his wife, Ginday had forced her body into a 22-inch deep metal incinerator in an alley beside their home.

He called police that night to report her missing – claiming she had walked out after assaulting him and had only married him for a visa to get into the UK.

Miss Gould said: ‘His ultimate intention was to play the role of victim, safe in the knowledge that he could rely on his married status as a permanent excuse for never having another relationship with a woman…his respectability and that of his family’s would be secured.’

She said Miss Rani was ‘in all senses a stranger in a strange land’ following her arrival in the UK last August, and appeared to be isolated, friendless and alone.

The financially secure defendant, meanwhile, was ‘staring reality in the face’ and would have had to explain any attempt to divorce his new bride.

‘His marriage was motivated by a desire to please his parents and conceal his homosexuality from them,’ Miss Gould said.

‘Over the years the defendant made contact with gay chat lines to discuss his sexuality, he developed a network of gay male friends and he attended gay clubs in the Birmingham area.’

The court head Ginday and his wife had been alone in the  house at Walsall, West Midlands, on September 12, the day of the murder.

That afternoon, neighbours saw smoke and likened the smell to that which comes from a crematorium.

When one concerned resident knocked on Ginday’s door, he claimed he was simply burning rubbish.

Miss Gould said that on the day of the murder the couple were left alone in the house for the first time as both Ginday's parents, who also lived at the address, were out

Police searched the property that night after Ginday made the missing persons report, but they did not look in the garden.

They returned the next night after neighbours reported seeing black smoke for the second day running.

Although Ginday had attempted to destroy his wife’s body, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard that a woman police constable ‘lifted the lid (of the incinerator) and found herself looking down on a human skull which was severely burnt’.

Prosecutor Debbie Gould said Ginday reported his wife missing on September 12 and told officers his wife had assaulted him before walking out of their home in Victory Lane, Walsall, pictured

Miss Gould said the skull was not complete and had only a few teeth, while the body was described as being ‘folded up and foetal-like’.

Officers also discovered Miss Rani’s wedding ring inside the 22-inch deep incinerator.

An examination of computer equipment showed that somebody at the property had searched for incinerators online around four weeks before Miss Rani’s death.

Police attended the house on September 12 last year after Mr Ginday reported his wife missing. However, officers did not find her body until the next day when they became suspicious of black smoke billowing from the property

CCTV images also showed Ginday filling up a water bottle with petrol at a service station just hours before the body was discovered.

Pathologists later confirmed the human remains were that of Miss Rani and that she had  died from strangulation by a metal pole being placed across her throat.

Miss Rani’s father, Surjit Singh told the jury he had no idea his son-in-law was gay, and didn’t even know what the term meant. He said through an interpreter that he had been ‘shocked and distressed’ after British police had explained it to him.

Missing Malaysian Jet: Pilot Claims Crew Died Trying To Save Passengers From BURNING PLANE (PICTURED)

Pilot Chris Goodfellow said he believed the flight was heading to Langkawi airport – the nearest airport to the last-known point of contact – after a catastrophic event onboard

A pilot has said he believes the crew of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 were heros trying to save the 239 passengers.

Chris Goodfellow said that he believed that Zaharie Ahmad Shah and Fariq Abdul Hamid acted instinctively to head to the nearest airport following an onboard fire.

He said that he believed a pilot with the experience of Mr Shah would think to control the plane before communicating with ground crews.

On the whereabouts of the Boeing 777, Mr Greenwood suggested that the plane flew until it ran out of fuel or it was destroyed by fire.

He said the biggest clue for his conclusions was the turn around which indicated the pilot intended to go to the nearest airport.

“This pilot, as I say, was a hero struggling with an impossible situation trying to get that plane to Langkawi.

“No doubt in my mind. That’s the reason for the turn and direct route. A hijack would not have made that deliberate left turn with a direct heading for Langkawi.

“It would probably have weaved around a bit until the hijackers decided on where they were taking it.”

Mr Goodfellow said that the left turn was the biggest clue about what happened to the plane.

Pilot Chris Goodfellow believes the plane was flying to Langkawi International Airport after an onboard incident.

He said: “We old pilots were always drilled to always know the closest airport of safe harbour while in cruise. Airports behind us, airports abeam us and airports ahead of us.

“Always in our head. Always. Because if something happens you don’t want to be thinking what are you going to do – you already know what you are going to do.

“Instinctively when I saw that left turn with a direct heading I knew he was heading for an airport.

“Actually he was taking a direct route to Palau Langkawi, a 13,000ft strip with an approach over water at night with no obstacles.

“He did not turn back to Kuala Lampur because he knew he had 8,000 foot ridges to cross. He knew the terrain was friendlier towards Langkawi and also a shorter distance.”

Writing about the lack of communication with air traffic control to alert them or make a mayday call, he said: “It was probably a serious event and they simply were occupied with controlling the plane and trying to fight the fire. Aviate, navigate and lastly communicate.”

Malaysian Jet: Screaming Family Members Finally Snap At Officials After 11 Days Of LIES And CONFUSION (PHOTOS)

Screaming family members of passengers on the missing Malaysia Airlines jet were forcibly removed from a hotel room after invading a press conference which was about to start, accusing the Malaysian government of failing to work hard enough to find the plane.

Half a dozen people held up banners blaming the government of inaction as airline officials desperately tried to resume order.

But one women screamed: ‘You are traitors to us… you have let us down. Tell us the truth! We want the truth!’

Two women, believed to be relatives of passengers on board the missing plane, were forcibly removed from the news conference and taken to another room, Sky News has reported.

Investigators meanwhile searching for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane have discounted reports the plane may have been sighted over the Maldives.

Several residents of Kudahuvadhoo, one of the more remote atolls in the Indian Ocean island chain nation, had reported seeing a low-flying aircraft on the morning of March 8, when Flight MH370 disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Malaysia’s Acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein told a daily news conference today that the reports had been investigated by police in the Maldives and were determined to be untrue.

The anger of the Chinese group reflected the fury of other relatives in Beijing who have threatened to go on a hunger strike unless more details about the search for the flight were immediately released.

During the press conference Hishammuddin said he ‘fully understands’ the frustration of the relatives of the missing passengers and said a high-level delegation was being sent to Beijing to speak to the families.

Meanwhile, investigators probing the disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines jetliner with 239 people on board believe it most likely flew into the southern Indian Ocean, a source close to the investigation said on Wednesday.

No wreckage has been found from Flight MH370, which vanished from air traffic control screens off Malaysia’s east coast at 1:21 a.m. local time on March 8, less than an hour after taking off from Kuala Lumpur bound for Beijing.

The half a dozen people held up banners blaming the government of inaction as airline officials desperately tried to resume order.

An unprecedented search for the Boeing 777-200ER is under way involving 26 nations in two vast search ‘corridors’: one arcing north overland from Laos towards the Caspian Sea, the other curving south across the Indian Ocean from west of Indonesia’s Sumatra island to west of Australia.

‘The working assumption is that it went south, and furthermore that it went to the southern end of that corridor,’ said the source.

The view is based on the lack of any evidence from countries along the northern corridor that the plane entered their airspace, and the failure to find any trace of wreckage in searches in the upper part of the southern corridor.

China, which is leading the northern corridor search with Kazakhstan, said it had not yet found any sign of the aircraft crossing into its territory.

Story Of A Lady Who Rejected A Guy Because He Is Poor Unknowing To Her That He Is Freaking Rich

Ada Okeke shared her true life story online..

My people, I need your advice… I am the one involved!
My cousin (male) came home last Christmas looking for a wife, I told him about my girlfriend and we agreed to invite her over so that he can see her…. At last he liked her, collected her phone number from me, though I told her before doing that… But here is the deal between me and him, he made it clear to me never to disclose what he does for a living to her now, but rather I should tell her he is a security man living in Mushin… ( note: he is a rich business man but he is afraid to disclose his identity now, because according to him, he is looking for a lady that will love him for whom he is and not for what he is)…

They met, he told her the same thing, .. After everything she came to me to know whether it’s true, I told her yes… But she should give him a chance, and try to know him very well, … .. My girlfriend told me she is not interested, not ready for marriage yet, I tried all my best to convince her but to no avail, I let go!
Later he found another lady, paid her bride price last February, they are planning for their traditional marriage soon..
Now, I don’t know how my girlfriend ran into him and discovered he is a rich business guy.. She called me yesterday afternoon and gave me the insult of my life.. Her reason is that I shouldn’t have lied to her in the first place, knowing fully well we are friends.. . that a friend is not supposed to lie to a friend… Her sisters called me and told me the same thing.. .. But when I tried to explain things, they hung the phone on me..
I am planning to go over to their place today to explain things to her sisters and apologise too, but my own sisters are still with the opinion that I did nothing wrong.. What do you think? Did I do the right or the wrong thing?

Nollywood Actor Aki Reveals How He Feels Being Short

During a recent interview with Yes! magazine, Aki was asked if he ever wonders why he was created in the form he is.

“Am I the one that created myself? Why would I ask myself such a question? You can only ask such a question when you are frustrated about life or if you are tired of life. But in my own case I am not. When you wake up in the morning and you have something to eat, you have people who can smile at you and you smile back as well, then what else do you need? Then you go to bed, you sleep and you seldom go to the hospital, so which other gift is more important than that? As far as I am concerned, that is the greatest gift. There are some people who have all the money, cars, houses and all the things they want, but they are sick. They don’t enjoy the money. So the perfect gift for me is good health”.

Obesere Reveals More On “Rape” Scandal

Popular Fuji musician, Abass Akande Obesere, accused of raping a businesswoman he claims was his lover, in an interview with Encomuim magazine, revealed his intention to sue the lady for libel and provided other details of the story.

Photo: Obesere sues back the woman, who accused him of rape

Speaking further on why he would sue Nike for libel, Obesere stated that it is to teach other ladies a big lesson. Read excerpts below:

Why are you now the complainant?

I am the complainant at Panti now. I took the case there because of Nike’s false accusation. And the police are still conducting their investigations. On Thursday, March 6, 2014, I went to Panti but she didn’t show up. Police had to go to her Festac home address, they couldn’t find her there. It was discovered that that she left a fake address at the station.

Did you regret your action, we mean making love with Nike?

Not at all. I can’t regret it because it happened naturally between the two of us.

What was your wife’s reaction to the story?

My wife believes I am a human being. I am not an angel. She didn’t react badly to it. She only warned me to be very careful with some women. So far you married a wife that understands you, a wife that stands as your mother, you won’t have any problem. She is like a mother to me.

But don’t you think this allegation is enough to put your image on the line?

Nothing like that. It can’t in any way damage my reputation because everybody knows I am not an angel. I am an entertainer. It can never disturb my career. Even as I speak to you now, I am somewhere in Ogbomoso, where I would be performing tonight.

Navy Arrest 22 Chinese, 4 Ships Suspected Of Illegal Entry

Navy

The Nigerian Navy has arrested four ships and 22 persons , suspected to be Chinese, who allegedly entered Nigeria’s territorial waters illegally.

The Commander of the Nigeria Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder, Commodore Godwin Ochai, who announced the arrests, said the vessels were carrying large tonnes of fish.

He named the vessels as Liadda Zhong Yu 15177, Liadda Zhong Yu 15178, Liao Zhung Yu 15030, and Liao Zhung Yu 15029.

Ochair spoke while handing over the 22 suspected illegal immigrants in Onne, Rivers, on Tuesday to the Nigeria Immigration Service and the State Department of Fisheries for further investigations.

He said the suspects breached international maritime laws and procedure by fishing in Nigeria’s territorial waters without permit.

“As part of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice-Adm. Usman Jubrin’s determination to fight maritime crimes, one of our ships, NNS Burutu, arrested four foreign ships on our waters on March 14.

“When our troops went on board the alien ships, they discovered that the four vessels had no immigration documents, neither did the 22 crew members have passports.

“Similarly, on probing further, we discovered that the suspects did not have any form of permit to engage in fishing activities in the nation’s territorial waters.

“The Nigerian Navy with its statutory responsibility to provide maritime security will continue to go after both foreign and domestic threats capable of undermining the nation’s security and economy.

“We will go after them, arrest them and put them forward for prosecution at the nation’s law courts,” he said.

Ochai said the navy was still conducting investigation into the mission of the ships.

According to him, the CNS has provided NNS Pathfinder adequate resources to carry out 24-hour surveillance of the waterways in the effort to stop oil theft, pipeline vandalism and sea piracy.

The commander urged the public to provide the navy timely information that would lead to the arrest of those undermining Nigeria’s maritime safety and the economy.

The Provost of Nigeria Immigration Service, Marine Command Onne, SP Briggs Dawaye, who took over custody of the suspects, said the command would thoroughly investigate their mission. [NAN]

“The court, hereby, dissolve the marriage in favour of the petitioner,” he held.

Popoola awarded custody of two children, aged 12 and 10 to the father, while custody of the four-year-old child was awarded to the petitioner.

He ordered the respondent to give N2000 each for the upkeep of each of the three children through the court and granted him the right to see his children at anytime.

Mutiat, had urged the court to dissolve the marriage to her husband alleging constant beating and lack of peace.

“He beats me always. There was a time he travelled, when he came back, he came to my shop and said I should go home with him.

“When we got home, he said I should swear that when he travelled no other man touched me which I did without worry.

“But one day, I slept, he tied my legs and arms to the bed and woke me up, I realised I couldn’t move, so I asked him what have I done.

“He said he would sleep with me that way and get me pregnant and then go ahead to expose and disgrace me saying he did not know who impregnated me.

“I asked why he was doing that, he said it was because of the way I slept and he started beating me, the beating was too much that I had to jump from the stairs and runaway.

“I went to my family house, the next day he came to beg that my parents should resolve the problem and I move back home with him.

“So, I moved back, I did not know that he was putting something on his manhood to sleep with me.

“I caught him on one occasion, I took the substance and when he was asked why he was using it, he said his father gave it to him.

“But his father denied it. The main reason I have come to court is that, he stalks and trails me, on one of his attacks, he beat me, tore my clothes and took my phone and N27,250 cash.

“I arrested him with the police and my father begged me to release him as none of his relatives came to his rescue.

“I want to have peace and that is why I have come to court to dissolve this marriage,” she said.

Saheed, the respondent, said that their union was not 15-years but 19 years and denied having carnal knowledge of his wife with charm.

“I wanted to travel to Abuja and I left my wife in the care of an Alfa who was present at our child’s naming.

“I told him to help me monitor my wife and that I would be calling her through him.

“When I called, the Alfa told me that my wife had taken to a strange lifestyle and that I should not stay long before coming so that I would come and monitor her movements.

“So, I came home, but I did not tell her I was coming, I went to see the Alfa who mentioned the names of the men she was seeing.

“I got home and asked her about it and that she should swear she had no affair while I was away.

“She said before she would answer, she wanted to know who told me and I told her it was not important.

“But she said she knew and went out of the house to the Alfa’s house, I followed her and both of them started exchanging words to the extent that she asked the Alfa to swear that he did not make advances at her.

“We fought at the Alfa’s house because I told her she could kill for not telling me about what was happening, that was when she left for Lagos.

“I wanted to collect my children’s clothes from her because the older ones are living with me, so I followed her when I saw her, it is true I collected her phone, but I have given it back to her.

“I did not collect money from her and I did not tie her to bed, she wants to implicate me. I also did not use anything on my manhood.

“I am not ready to leave her because of my children, if she does not think about that, I do. It is because of her unholy ways that she wants to leave me,” he said. [NAN]

FCT Commences ‘Operation Kick Out’ Hawkers, Homeless

street hawker

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Mohammed, has declared his resolve to rid off the streets of Abuja of beggars, hawkers, prostitutes and operators of tricycles, popularly known as Keke NAPEP.

Mohammed made this declaration yesterday when he led the high-powered Special Enforcement Task Force Team on Abuja City Cleaning and Management on its first demonstration ride and inspection within the Abuja metropolis. He vowed to spend more time outside, and less in his office on physical inspection and monitoring.

The minister warned “hawkers, beggars, prostitutes, commercial motorcycle riders and keke operators to keep off the capital city as the clean up exercise would be routine and permanent.

“It is not going to be business as usual. I will personally be here on the field supervising together with the task force…We have got a very vibrant chairman of the task force team and members. They too are under my supervision. It is a multi-dimensional task force that is out to make sure our basic rules and regulations are obeyed.

“There will be no hiding place for commercial motorcyclists and tricycle operators in the city, and these two modes of transportation have been used to wreak havoc in other places.

The random springing up of mechanic workshops and car marts in the city will no longer be condoned.”

Mohammed however, assured the people that the task force would work assiduously with human face to make FCT a better place for everybody.

He said the FCT Administration (FCTA) has created about one million jobs and business opportunities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) within the last four years since he became minister.

He stated that through the new transport policy of the FCTA, drivers have been turned to vehicle owners via the SURE-P hire purchase scheme reputed to be the most affordable in the country.

The minister added that soon taxis plying FCT roads estimated to hit 10,000 would all be captured biometrically and fitted with tracking devices for enhanced security. He also said the FCTA would be employing about 7,000 youths in environmental and traffic related jobs in the city.

Also, the task force Chairman and FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Mbu, equally vowed to keep his foot on the ground to ensure that Abuja is fully sanitised.

Mbu described the FCT minister as a very hardworking and result-oriented man “who doesn’t sleep,” pledging that “together, we are going to do better than what I did in Rivers State.” [Thisday]

Reps To Probe Immigration Recruitment Test Deaths

The House of  Representatives, yesterday, resolved to probe the circumstances surrounding the death of 21 job applicants  during last Saturday aptitude test for recruitment into the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS.

It also resolved that families of the victims should be given automatic employment, provided they were qualified.

The House also mandated its Committee on National Security and Public Safety to investigate last Saturday’s killings of over 100 residents in a Southern Kaduna village, directing the committee in plenary to carry out the assignment within two weeks and report back.

Four committees, including those on Interior, Justice, Public Service Matters and Labour and Productivity, were mandated to investigate the matter and report to the House within four weeks.

This development was sequel to a motion brought to the floor of the House by Sunday Karimi, PDP, Kogi State, under matters of national importance.

In the motion, entitled, ‘Tragedy at 2014 immigration exercise in which one million  Nigerian youths scrambled for 4,500 job placements,’ Karimi had given a graphic detail with figures of how the aptitude test was conducted in almost all the state capitals.

“On March 15, 2014, over one million Nigerian youths trooped into all the nation’s state capitals and other major cities to participate in the 2014 Nigerian Immigration Service recruitment, for which the Service had in September, 2013, advertised positions into it and had obtained N1000 as application fee from each of the applicants,” he said.

He explained that in Lagos alone, about 70,000 youths showed up at the stadium for the test, adding that in Ibadan, the Liberty Stadium played host to about 20,000.

According to him, .the 60,000 capacity National Stadium in Abuja was over-crowded with 70,000 youths, while 25,000 candidates showed up like a sea of heads at llorin Stadium in Kwara State.

Karimi said:  “In Benin, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, 26,000 youths trooped in all in a bid to write the aptitude test.

”The Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano played host to 15,800; Benue, 17,800 and Port Harcourt, about 23,000 candidates.

”Despite the crises and insecurity in the North East, Gombe and Borno State played host to about 5,000 applicants each, while in Sokoto State, 10,000 applicants participated in the exercise.

”This resulted in chaos and stampede in all the centres and several persons were reported dead and many more critically injured. At least, about 21 deaths were reported.

”In Benin, three pregnant women lost their lives;  in Abuja, eight candidates, including two men and six women, died at the venue.

“In Port Harcourt,  five corpses, including that of a pregnant woman, were recovered at the scene. In Calabar, Ogun, Lagos and at many other centres, candidates, all in a bid to secure a white collar job, were flogged and abused by security personnel. Many slept at the venues, a night preceding the exercise.

”An unrecorded number of Nigerians had lost their lives in motor accidents on their way to the test centres.

“The National Bureau of Statistics ,NBS, states that 54 per cent of Nigerian youths are unemployed and puts Nigeria’s total unemployment at 23.9 per cent.

Karimi had in his motion, prayed the House to condemn unequivocally, handling of the recruitment of the Nigerian Immigration Service of March 15, 2014, and commiserate with the families of applicants who lost their lives and also empathise with those who suffered injuries as a result of the exercise.

He also said the Comptroller General of the Immigration Service and the Minister of Interior must appear before the House to explain the unwieldy recruitment of March 15, 2014, adding that the Federal Government should work in conjunction with state, local governments and public spirited individuals and organisations to evolve a job creation scheme that would best address the unemployment situation in Nigeria.

He canvassed a micro-credit scheme, Nigerian Youth Empowerment Programme, to assist Nigerian youths keenly interested in handcraft and small businesses, in order to, at least, immortalise those who lost their lives.

The  Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, at this juncture, called for debates on the issue, but members sought an amendment that the Committee on Human Rights should be dropped for Labour and Productivity and this was carried.

Recruitment: NIS Defruaded Jobseekers – Hon. Gbajabiamila

Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, said the action of the Nigeria Immigration Service(NIS) at collecting money from job seekers amounted to fraud, which negated the spirit and letters of Section 419 of the  Criminal Laws.

“What the NIS did was to obtain money by false pretence, contrary to section 419 of our criminal laws. Whoever is responsible must be treated and punished as we would a 419ner.

“To make matters worse, I am not aware that the revenue realised was considered as part of the revenue profile of the agency or the country when the 2014 budget was submitted.

“I am saddened by this occurrence and dismayed that the Minister’s statement that those who died were to blame for their conduct, if true, showed no trace of humanity.

”It is obtaining by false pretense when you take money from 520,000 people without telling them up-front there was limited vacancy for just 4,000 people, half of which had already been given to cronies and preferred candidates any way,” the lawmaker said.

He stated that the exercise was a proof to the alarming rate of unemployment in the country.

Teen Drops Lawsuit Against Parents For Not Paying Her School Fees

download (1)

A New Jersey teenager who drew international attention when she sued her parents for financial support after leaving home in a dispute on Tuesday dropped the case against them, according to court records.

Rachel Canning, 18, filed papers to dismiss the lawsuit in New Jersey family court, saying the decision was voluntary.

The lawsuit’s dismissal ends a public battle between Canning and her parents that raised questions about the obligations of non-divorced parents in New Jersey to continue to financially support adult children after they leave home.

Canning returned to her parents’ home in Lincoln Park, New Jersey, last week after a four-month estrangement that began when she turned 18, the legal age of adulthood.

She had sued her parents, Sean and Elizabeth Canning, for her private high school tuition, living expenses and access to a college fund, arguing that though she did not reside with them, she was not legally emancipated and therefore was entitled to their financial care.

Her parents said they would continue to pay for their daughter’s education and expenses if she returned home to complete high school.

Canning contended in her lawsuit that she was emotionally abused and effectively abandoned. Her parents argued that their daughter had disciplinary problems at home and school and would not conform to house rules that included curfews and chores.

During the estrangement, Rachel Canning had been living with a friend’s family, who also funded her lawsuit.

Attorneys for Rachel Canning and her parents did not respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.

13 Northern Govs Seek Solution To Boko Haram In Washington

northern govsThirteen northern governors of the North are currently in the United States seeking solutions to the Boko Haram insurgency that is fast threatening to grind socio-economic activities in the region to a halt.

The governors met yesterday for about eight hours at the United States Peace Institute and the State Department in Washington D.C with U.S government officials and representatives of Norway and Denmark.

While the meetings are expected to continue today, details of yesterday’s closed-door meeting, which was bankrolled by the U.S. government in collaboration with the governments of Norway and Denmark, could not be obtained.

However, it was learnt that the issue on the front burner was how Nigeria could overcome the Boko Haram insurgency, especially through education and economic investments.

Other issues discussed included re-invigorating the U.S. attention on the north, economic investment opportunities in the region, security and challenges of private investments in the region.

The governors were reportedly given time to dialogue among themselves on the way out of Boko Haram.

Among the governors in attendance were Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Kashim Shetttima (Borno), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Saidu Dakingari (Kebbi), Isa Yuguda (Bauchi) and Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano).

baby factoryThe Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested five persons for their alleged involvement in illegal sale of babies also known as baby factory. Seven expectant mothers are also being held.

The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, Umar Gwadabe who announced the discovery of the baby factory, said it was located at 19, Nepa Line, Ikot Ekpene.

He said: “The discovery came following a tip-off that two women, Ima Akpan (35) and Mma Nurse, now at large, were operating a baby factory where seven expectant mothers were camped.

“The expectant mothers were arrested, and on interrogation, two of them– Ikwo Ofuo and Joy John– confessed that they were enticed to the business because of money.

“On delivery, a male child will be sold for N400, 000. A female child costs N350, 000”.

One of the teenage expectant mothers said she was put in the family way by an unknown man.

She said: “I don’t know who impregnated me. I was impregnated while hawking to assist my mother”.

Meanwhile, the state police command has paraded two suspects, who allegedly specialise in forging academic certificates.

The suspects, Ubong Udoh and Thompson Edet, were arrested by detectives from Ikot Ekpene with degrees, Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificates.

The certificates recovered from the suspects bear different names.

Some of the higher institutions whose certificates were forged by the suspects include a degree certificate of Imo State University; five HND certificates of Akwa Ibom Polytechnic, Ikot; an NYSC exemption certificate, two official transcripts from Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic and two from Calabar Polytechnic.

Udoh said his late father sold forged certificates, and he took over the illegal trade after his death.

He said: “I was working in one of the construction companies. My late father has been doing this business. I continued with the business after his death. He died last October”.

Opposition Sponsoring Boko Haram To Discredit Jonathan – PDP

boko-haram-jonathanThe Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Tuesday fingered the opposition in the resurgent spate of insurgency and sectarian violence in the country, saying their ultimate aim was to discredit the person, office and administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.

The party said the tactics is to distract and detract the President, constrain the successful delivery of his transformation programme so as to portray him as non-performing and finally ridicule his score card when time reckons.

This was contained in a statement by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh.

The ruling party said it was beyond conjecture that the Nigerian version of terrorism is the product of a narrow political persuasion that defies logic and reason.

“We accept the reality of terrorism as a global phenomenon, however, the peculiar trend of the Nigerian version which subsists on a welter of nebulous demands and masked identities, hacking down innocent Nigerians -women, children and the elderly in an awful scorch earth fashion, and in an obstinate ridicule of dialogue, defies all reason and logic and only summarizes a well considered agenda of national destabilization for a purely selfish political cause. We pointedly finger the opposition.

“We recall statements by some politicians, vowing to make the country ungovernable for President Jonathan on the eve of the 2011 general elections, and therefore adjure Nigerians to rise against this brute ideology of violence from which a tiny clique of the political class intends to benefit ultimately. It is the climax of wickedness only heard of the Lucifer in the distant bosom of hell fire”, the statement read.

The statement further alleged that it was beyond reproach that the president was being persecuted for no other reason than being a Nigerian from the minority, arguing that no leader in the history of the country has ever being confronted with the level of opposition and persecution that Jonathan has been subjected to since he assumed office.

“Ironically, this is in spite of his humility and his fidelity to the orthodoxy of all democratic norms and values. This is in spite of his proven commitment to the unity and progress of every party of Nigeria irrespective of tribe and religion. Ironically, this is in spite of his proven competence and record delivery of his electoral promises”.

The PDP, therefore, commended the president for not only effectively containing the insurgency but beating down distractions and detractions to post unprecedented landmark achievements in all sectors of the economy in the last two and half years he has been at the helm of affairs.

The ruling party listed some landmark achievements of the current administration to include the revolutionary excels in the works sector with the dualization and rehabilitation of major trunk roads across the country in addition to the repair of Third Mainland bridge and the commencement of the works on the Second Niger Bridge. The resuscitation of the inland waterways and the railway system which have been abandoned for years and the establishment of Almajiri education system and nine new federal universities across the country.

Others according to the party include the completion and commissioning of key power stations across the country, the new automobile policy, the revolution in the housing sector with establishment of the Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Company (NMRC), the first of its kind in the country, which is designed to deliver 75,000 houses every year for Nigerians in addition to a million direct and indirect jobs as well as the Agricultural Transformation Agenda through which six million farmers have received inputs in a programme that targets an increase in domestic food production by an additional 20 million tonnes and creating 3.5 million jobs before the end of 2015.

“This is in addition to the investments in job creation through the YouWin and SURE-P projects as well as the widening of the ambit of the PDP ideology of transferring wealth from public institutions to the private sector wherein hardworking private individuals are now thriving in manufacturing, trade, commerce and other critical sectors of the economy”, the party said.

The statement urged well-meaning Nigerians to resist those behind the sectarian violence and insurgency in the country and shore up support for the president in his efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

Court Remands Pastor For Using Machete On Wife Because She Missed Church Programmes

machete bloodOne Pastor Samuel Daniel has been remanded in prison by an Ogun State Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Owode Egba, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, for using a machete on his wife.

Daniel was arraigned yesterday on a two-count charge of assault and providing false information, which is punishable under Sections 338 and 192 criminal code Vol 1 law of Ogun State, 2006.

The accused, who was a pastor with an Apostolic Church in Ode Remo area of the state, reportedly went to his wife’s working place at Itori village in Owode-Egba on December 10, 2013 and used the machete on her for abandoning church programmes. He was also said to have rushed his wife to the hospital and reported the case at Owode-Egba Police Station, but lied that his wife was attacked by two unknown persons.

After carrying out investigations, the police arrested Pastor Daniel and charged him to court. At the last adjourned date, Daniel pleaded not guilty while his counsel, Joy Augustine, filled a bail application arguing that the crime her client is accused of is a bailable offence.

The presiding magistrate, E. J. Ojikutu granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in the like sum while the case was adjourned till May 26.

Daniel, who appeared to have suffered partial stroke, was however, remanded in prison until he fulfils his bail conditions.

We’re The Only Salvation For Nigeria, Says APC… Announces Dates For Congresses, Convention

APCThe All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the President Goodluck Jonathan-led government of fleecing unemployed youth and their parents. The party also alleged that the government is planning to remove democratically-elected governors of the APC-controlled states in the North Eastern part of the country under the guise of fighting the Boko Haram insurgency.

The APC made this known during its 9th Interim National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.

The meeting which was attended by members of the party’s Interim National leadership led by Chief Bisi Akande, had in attendance Governors Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State.

Also at the meeting were the National leaders of the party Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, General Mohammed Buhari,  Senator Alli Modu Sheriif, Chief  Ogbonnoya  Onu, former  Vice President Atiku Abubakar,  Chief  Olusegun Osoba, Senator  Saraki, Senator Goje and other.

The party also announced dates for its Congresses and National Convention

The Communiqué read thus: 1.Following its deliberations, the National Executive Committee of the APC commiserated with the families of the people who died on Saturday, March 15th, 2014 at several venues of the job test by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). We also extend our sympathy and prayers to those who were injured in the stampede, and wish them a speedy recovery.

The needless deaths of our youth, which resulted from a combination of exploitation, corruption, greed and incompetence of the relevant authorities, represent a needless violation of their right to life and dignity. Out of sheer greed, 1,000 Naira each was collected from the over 770,000 unemployed applicants shortlisted. The Jonathan led PDP government therefore fleeced unemployed youth and their parents of Seven hundred and seventy six million naira (N770 million naira) using a consultant as conduit.  Even then, the available vacancies of about 4,500 have already been filled through the back door by over 3,000 candidates of PDP Apparatchik and government officials.

The pervasive corruption and incompetence that have become the hallmarks of the Jonathan Administration paved the way for this unprecedented greed in which hapless job seekers were extorted by the same government that has failed to provide jobs for them. Yet, this government has no social security or any form of safety net for the vulnerable army of the unemployed. It should be made clear that this government encourages and baby sits corruption stealing not only from the Pension fund of Nigerian citizens, but also from the unemployed and from our collective patrimony, the NNPC.

That is why we are calling for a criminal investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the deaths of those innocent Nigerians, to find out who authorized the fleecing of job seekers by a government agency, what happened to the money realized from the heist and why the relevant officials did not ensure a better arrangement that could have saved precious lives.

The job stampede deaths constitute the latest in a series of events that have turned Nigeria into a massive killing field in recent times. The orgy of killings in the past few weeks have left hundreds dead and many more maimed in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Kaduna, Katsina and Plateau, just to mention a few. Never in the peace time history of our dear country has there been such a high number of needless deaths.

  1. Amid all of this, the PDP-led Federal Government has been carrying on as if all is well. After presiding over a wasteful centenary celebration, President Goodluck Jonathan has been gallivanting around the country, addressing political rallies when he should be commiserating with families of the dead in the affected states, especially Yobe where innocent children were massacred by a cowardly band of terrorists, and Katsina which he visited a few hours after hundreds of people were killed.
  2. Also, it has come to our notice that, in pursuant of the Presidency’s stance to label anyone who offers it any advice on how to curtail the terrorists attack and boost the morale of our gallant troops, the imposition of a total state of emergency is being considered for Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states, which is a smokescreen to remove the democratically-elected Governors of these APC states. We condemn this move unequivocally and urge the President to jettison the idea, if indeed it is being remotely contemplated, because it will not advance the cause of peace in the affected states.

Against the background of the daily orgy of killings, we are compelled to say that the Jonathan Administration has lost total control of events in the country, with the result that Nigerians are now being left to their own devices. It is clear that the situation in our country today, whether it is in the area of security, job creation, fight against corruption or even growing of the economy, is far beyond the capacity of those at the helm.

  1. We also note as a party, the ferocious attacks and blackmail mounted against Lamido Sanusi, the Governor of Central Bank. How someone who publicly disclosed the brazen theft of $20 billion dollars from NNPC become a candidate for character assassination and blackmail is questionable and condemnable. Sanusi’s suspension is an affront to law and a threat to Nigeria’s institutional stability. This is also a government of double standard. Why is the Minister of Petroleum Diezani still in office when the major agency she superintendents is under investigation over the missing $20 billion?

Therefore, the only salvation for Nigeria is a purposeful and focused party like the APC. From the Road-map which we unveiled recently, it is clear that we recognize the enormity of the challenges facing our dear country, hence we made job creation our priority, followed by security and the fight against corruption, among others.

We urge our compatriots not to despair or give up hope, because salvation is in the horizon. The APC today embodies the hopes and aspirations of our long-suffering people. We have no doubt that this country can and will work again, and we are up to the task of restoring hope to our beleaguered people.

  1. Finally, the party wishes to announce dates for its Congresses and National Convention. The Ward Congress will hold on 5th of April, Local Government Congress on the 12th of April. State Congress on the 23rd of April and National Convention on the 24th of May.

Boko Haram: Senator Advocates Effective Policing Of Nigeria’s Borders

Boko Haram terroristsSenator Domingo Obende on Tuesday in Geneva, Switzerland called for more effective measures in the policing of Nigeria’s borders.

Obende (APC-Edo) made the call at an interactive session with journalists at the 130th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference in Geneva.

Such measures, the Nigerian lawmaker said would help to check activities of insurgents, especially members of the Boko Haram sect.

“In tackling the problem of insurgency which is currently facing the nation, there is a need to stop the insurgents from using the country’s border lines.

“The only solution to insurgents’ infiltration is effective policing of such borders, which is the first and foremost measure.

“This way we will stop the insurgents from using our border lines, or rather their own country’s border lines to come into our country”, Obende said.

The senator, however, claimed that a long stretch of the Nigerian border line is porous and largely unmanned.

“I will say that Nigeria is without borders, because when you talk about borders, it pre-supposes that you have the personnel who will man them.

“But when you go to our border with Chad and Cameroon, everywhere is open. So, we really need to spend money in fencing these borders.

“If we don’t do that, this will continue and, of course, Nigeria will be an easy access for any attack in any case of a problem with any country tomorrow or any other day”, he said.

Obende however called for a proper examination of issues relating with Nigeria’s border with other countries.

“For me, I think we should be able to put an institution on ground which will look into the border issues and have a clear-cut understanding of how we are going to man our borders”, he said.

The senator expressed optimism that there would soon be a solution to the problem.

“With the way the Senate President, David Mark, has been relating and discussing with some IPU member-countries who share common borders with Nigeria, there will be a solution to the problem soon”, he said.

Pastor Remanded In Prison Over N52.3m Fraud

court-hammer

An Ikeja High Court on Tuesday remanded a 52-year-old Pastor, Peter Nwogu, in prison for allegedly defrauding some accommodation seekers of N52.3 million.

Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya remanded Nwogu in Kirikiri Maximum Prisons after his arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The accused had not filed his application for bail when the case came up.

Nwogu, who lives at Plot 1697 Karamu Rotimi St., Victoria Island, Lagos, is facing a seven-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretences

The EFCC Counsel, Mrs Olubunmi Bosede, said that the accused committed the offences between July and August 2013 in Lagos.

Bosede said that the accused placed advertisements for lease of properties in some national newspapers using his outfits, Christian Defence Fellowship and Business Defence Solutions Ltd.

She said the accused posed as the owner of the properties situated at No. 6, Gerrard Road Ikoyi and No. 6, Olawale Dawodu St., Ikoyi, Lagos.

The prosecutor said Nwogu obtained N52.3 million from an estate agent, Mrs Vivian Obinabo, under the pretext of leasing the said properties to her clients.

[NAN]
