A Communal war over a parcel of land between the people of Amazaba community in Eastern Obolo and Ikot Akpan Udo in Ikot Abasi local government areas of Akwa Ibom State yesterday claimed the lives of three young men.
The three young men from Nda Uko community whose bodies are still missing were said to have been beheaded by irate youths from Eastern Obolo during a clash.
When LEADERSHIP visited the area, witnesses reported that the youths from Nda Uko community were on fishing expedition in preparation for the burial of a middle-aged woman, a native of Eastern Obolo but married to an Nda Uko man when suddenly, over 20 rival youths from Eastern Obolo, travelling in a flying boat, attacked them with machetes and other dangerous weapons.
The three slain youths were said to have been beheaded and their heads taken away by the assailants.
A community leader in the area, who spoke with LEADERSHIP on the condition of anonymity, said the entire community is currently in a mourning mood over the untimely death of the three young men.
The community leader said the matter had been reported to the chairman of Ikot Abasi local government area and the police even as he called on the state government to urgently deploy more security operatives to the area to forestall further bloodshed and break down of the law.
Confirming the incident the Akwa Ibom state police public relations officer, Mr. Etim Dickson said the command had already deployed more operatives to the area and the matter was under investigation.
