Manchester, United Kingdom – Nigerian businessman Oluwabusayo Abegunde, 38, got a 12-year prison sentence for stabbing his cheating wife repeatedly with a knife while their young children were downstairs.
After going through his wife Esther’s, 33, mobile phone messages and pictures and discovering she had been unfaithful to him, Mr. Abegunde confronted her on February 16, 2013. The woman said their marriage was over and went to sleep into a spare room.
In a fit of rage, Mr. Abegunde attacked his wife in her sleep. He stabbed her in the chest and arm and punctured her left lung, only agreing to call an ambulance after she promised she would tell police the wounds were self-inflicted.
Esther survived and a few days later told police the truth.
Mr. Abegunde, who runs businesses in Nigeria, told the court he was “humiliated” by his wife of 10 years’ infidelity and sought revenge.
The jury at Manchester crown court found him guilty of grievous bodily harm and he was jailed for 12 years.
The couple have two sons, aged eight and four.
