Sir Ikedi Ohakim ,Governor of Imo state,Nigeria
How Ohakim Is Remaking Imo
The People are talking
From what TheNEWS was able to highlight as Governor Ikedi Ohakim’s achievements so far, one can safely conclude that another visionary leader has emerged to steer the affairs of the state. There is still enough time for him to deliver more in terms of development to his state to earn equal ranking with the state’s greatest leader, Sam Mbakwe. However, to achieve this, he must take his performance a notch higher.
Pius Nwachukwu,
Enugu.
The fact that Governor Ikedi Ohahim has chosen to serve his people rather than loot the treasury like many of his colleagues in government is highly remarkable (”How Ohahim Is Remaking Imo,” TheNEWS, 20 October 2008 edition). I congratulate him on his track record of service and wish other governors emulate his commitment to service.
Boye Seriki,
Ibadan.
Governor Ikedi Ohahim of Imo State is a true democrat. Your cover story on him was indeed laudable because Nigerians can at least point to a leader who has the interest of his people at heart. From all indications, his 18-month-old administration has turned Imo into one of the most promising states in the country.
Funmi Oluwasanmi,
Lagos.
I agree with your magazine that Ikedi Ohahim has launched Imo State onto the path of restoration with his bold vision. Since he came to power in 2007, he has been able to keep his promises to his people by providing them water, good road network, job opportunities, health care etc. I think he is a man other governors have to emulate.
Tolani Jinadu,
Abeokuta.
That Gov. Ikedi Ohakim emerged the best performing governor of the year 2007 did not come to me as a surprise. With what I saw, read and heard from people about his performance in Imo State, I believe that he is treading the path of Sam Mbakwe, the state’s first executive governor whose visionary leadership between 1979 and 1983 erected a solid foundation for development of the state. Keep it up, action governor of Imo State. You are my man.
Okechukwu Peter,
Kaduna.
There is no doubt that the people of Imo State are highly impressed by the performance of their Governor so far. My advice to him is that he should remain focussed and not allow sycophants to fool him into believing that he has done everything that needs to be done.
Feli Mohammed,
Minna.
It is too early to pour encomiums on Ohakim who is less than two years old in power. Examples abound of good starters but poor finishers, such as Chimaroke Nnamani of Enugu and Ayo Fayose of Ekiti. So, let’s still keep our fingers crossed.
Felix Musa,
Lagos.
The good thing is that all the governors have the opportunity to write their names in gold. The only way to do that is to perform very well. I am not too sure if Ohakim has done so. That is why I am not too comfortable with this transformation story you are reporting. Please, be more discerning.
Afam Osigwe,
Onitsha.
Governor Ikedi Ohakim is a God-send to deliver the people of Imo State from difficult times. As a politician in the relatively new Peoples Progressive Alliance, PPA, performing brilliantly is the only way he can send his message clearly to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to which he initially belonged.
Chinyere Nwakama,
Owerri.
Having served as Commissioner for Commerce and Tourism under the late governor Evans Enwerem in the aborted Third Republic, Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State knows where the shoe pinches. Hence, he has been able to address some of the problems in such a short period. The 51-year-old governor is certainly worthy of emulation.
Godson Amadi,
Port Harcourt.
Governor Ikedi Ohakim has done great things for his people. However, there is room for improvement, especially in the area of nipping kidnapping, which is gradually creeping into the oil producing state, in the bud.
Aigboje Izibodu,
Benin City.
Governor Ohakim of Imo State is a man of the people. While he has been very busy putting things in order in Owerri and other urban towns such as Orlu and Okigwe, the governor is bent on carrying the rural populace along with his Imo State Road Management Agency, IROMA. It is difficult to believe that he has undertaken so many projects of immense value to the people in so short a time, but pictures don’t lie. Well done.
Segun Ajulo,
Akure.
Governor Ikedi Ohakim has proved one thing since he assumed office on 29 May 2007: that the eight years of PDP in Imo had been years of waste, greed and unchecked embezzlement of the state’s fund while leaving the citizenry to suffer. It is my belief that posterity will judge.
Chika Okwudinka,
Orlu.
Having read and seen the achievements of Gov. Ohakim who is widely referred to as an architect of transformation, my sincere advice to him is not to rest on his laurels. He should always remember that if you are in a position of leadership and you perform well, you would not be forgotten; likewise, if you decide to behave otherwise, your name would also never be forgotten.
Clement Kolawole,
Ibadan.
Comparing the series of maltreatment the people of Imo State have suffered in the hands of past administrations, especially that of Achike Udenwa, with the superlative performance of Governor Ikedi Ohakim, I would like to agree with you that truly, a redeemer has come to Imo. Ohakim has proved all critics wrong by emerging as the 2007 governor of the year.
John Pius,
Lagos.
Governor Ohakim of Imo State has indeed set the pace for other South-Eastern governors to follow. Let us hope and pray that he would find the stamina to sustain the good work he has started.
Ernest Akpata,
Lagos.
Ikedi Ohakim, the executive governor of Imo, is taking the state to a higher level. Keep it up your Excellency.
Biodun Ariwajoye,
Lagos.
Governor Ohakim should know that whatever he achieves now will be the basis on which he will be given a second chance in 2011.
Emeka Eweremadu,
Awka.
Although Governor Ohakim seems to be performing wonderfully well, it cannot be said with certainty that he would get a second term. This is because of rigging and godfatherism in Nigeria. I, however, wish him all the best in his desire to positively transform Imo.
Yemisi Lawal,
Onitsha.
It is my prayer that Governor Ohakim will carry his current zeal to the end of his first and, hopefully, second terms.
Haruna A. Abubakar,
Abuja.
By accommodating other parties in his government, Ikedi Ohakim has proved himself to be a governor for every indigene of the state. I recommend Ohakim’s brand of politics to other governors because it is a guarantee for progress.
Chika Ebele,
Enugu.
It is a bit too early to assess Governor Ikedi Ohakim or any other governor for that matter. Let us wait till the end of his first term at least before we assess him. I know of governors who started well but ended up badly. While I hope Ohakim will not end up like such governors, we can only assess him very well after four years at least.
Juliana Istifanus,
Jos.
With www.ebeano.com during the last administration, Chimaroke Nnamani took Enugu people for a ride with bogus claims. Now I won’t be surprised if www.ohakim.com becomes the next South-East source of deceit and fraud.
Amaechi Ibe,
Owerri.
Governor Ikedi Ohakim is a young man with ideas. He is willing to take Imo to greater heights and has already started showing promising signs. We need to encourage young people like him so that this country can truly move forward.
Bello Oriakhi,
Benin City.
If within the few months this administration has settled into governance Ikedi Ohakim can boast of monumental developmental strides for the people of Imo state, I won’t be surprised if very soon, the once backward state takes a front seat in the comity of forward-looking states in the country. He deserves commendation.
Wale Oginni,
Abeokuta.
Global Economic Crisis; How Nigeria Will Be Affected
Nigeria must act fast and smart if it really intends to overcome the global financial melt-down. Like McLuhan projected, the world has become a global village and whatever happens in one part must effect the rest.
Anietie Richards,
Lagos.
I believe that the global financial crunch is grossly exaggerated. Crisis or no crisis, we have our own peculiar economic burden to grapple with. Let the Western world face their problem, while we tackle our local headaches.
Israel Ajanaku,
Lagos.
I believe both the Minister of Finance, Shamsudeen Usman and the Central Bank Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo are only trying to keep Nigerians in the dark by saying the country’s fundamentals are strong and cannot be affected by the global financial crisis. Are they trying to say Nigeria is no longer a part of the globe? I would advise the duo to go back to the drawing board and come out with possible solutions to the financial crisis that has already eaten deep into Nigeria’s capital market.
Jude Jacobs,
Abuja.
United States of America, USA, is supposed to be the pace setter in the global financial environment. If USA can be so badly affcted by the financial melt-down, emerging countries like Nigeria are in for bigger trouble. I pray the end days are not here yet.
Samson Ukpong,
Ikot-Ekpene.
I agree with the view that the whole global economic melt-down issue has been exaggerated, at least its direct impact on our local economy. Even if it does impact negatively on our economy, it will be for a short while.
Funmilayo Adebosin,
Lokoja.
Since the leading financial markets gravely hit by the economic melt-down are being given a new lease of life through aggressive funds pumping by the concerned governments, there is bound to be positive ripple effect on our own economy.
Femi Balogun,
Ilorin.
